Graveside celebration for Ms. Yvonne Brooks Fair, 69, of Opelika, AL will be held at 11 a.m. CST, Monday, May 2, 2022 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery (2467 County Road 28 LaFayette, AL) with Rev. Terry L. Magby, officiating.
Per her request, there will not be a public viewing.
Ms. Fair graduated from LaFayette High School in 1970 and went to work at a local manufacturing plant. Upon her younger brother being accepted into Tuskegee University, she gained the motivation to apply to attend college and was accepted into Alabama State University; where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1976. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Auburn University and an Educational Specialist Degree from Troy University.
Shortly after graduating, she was employed by the Lee County Board of Education where she taught school in Smiths Station for a year before being employed by the Chambers County Board of Education in 1977; where she was employed for 33 years until retiring in August of 2010. While employed with Chambers County Board of Education, she served as a 1st grade teacher until 2004, when she became a full-time counselor. She was an active member of Alabama Education Association, Chambers County Education Association, and Alabama School Counselor Association.
Ms. Fair served as a mentor to many educators along the way who still appreciate the advice she gave them to reach higher levels of success in their field. She was a devoted member of the Bethania Chapter 113 Order of Eastern Stars for many years until she could no longer be actively involved due to her health. She was known as a caring and kind-hearted person who loved helping others. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking pies, cakes, and loved eating anything sweet! She deeply treasured her family and friends.
Ms. Fair united in marriage to Mr. Harold J. Fair on August 4, 1979. To this union, one son was born Jabar A. Fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee and Lillie Mae Brooks, one sister Barbara Brooks, and one brother James Brooks. Her life, legacy, and love will forever live in the hearts of: her beloved and devoted son, Jabar Arkez Fair of Opelika, AL; two siblings: Dorothy Brooks of LaFayette, AL and Donald (Janie) Brooks of Tuskegee, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
