Funeral service for Mr. Godfrey Greenwood, 97, of Lanett, AL will be held at Noon EST Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Goodsell United Methodist Church 1007 N 6th Ave, Lanett, AL.
Rev. Kelsey Barnes, Pastor/Officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Garden Cemetery 3317 Country Club Rd. Lanett, AL.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM EST at Goodsell United Methodist Church.
Mr. Godfrey Greenwood entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his residence. He was born to Joe and Mary (Haynes) Greenwood on November 17, 1927.
He was a man of great character and resilience. He built a legacy of kindness and strength that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him. His life’s work and passions were matched only by his deep love for his family especially his beloved wife, Bobbie, with whom he shared 74 years of marriage. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering support.
As a proud father of nine children – Barbara, Shirleye, Michael, Sandra, Joyce, Gregory, Marjorie, Jacquelynne, and Ericka (Jarquez). He was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. He delighted in the accomplishments and joys of his family and took pride in the countless lives he touched through his compassion and generosity.
He worked over 60 years alongside his brother Joe, at Joe’s Cleaners in West Point Georgia. In his earlier years, he loved working in his yard, going to church, watching sports, the westerns, and traveling with family.
He was preceded in death by three children, Ronald Bernard and two infants; three brothers, Joseph, James, and Lamar Greenwood; one sister, Christine Price.
He is survived by his devoted wife Bobbie, his nine children, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were like family to him. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Godfrey’s memory to Goodsell United Methodist Church.
